Dockers Bounce Back with solid win against Wynyard:

The Dockers had a good day at West Park last week against the cats with all three teams managing to come away with four points. Andrew Mclaren u/19 boys continued on their winning way  and now have themselves  sitting in 3 rd position on the ladder.  James Plant was outstanding kicking 6 goals for the game. The reserves have also enjoyed a good 3 game winning streak and they too have themselves sitting in the top 5. Todd Munro continued on with his great form along with Sam Smart kicking 8 goals and Geoff Deverall kicking 6 goals in strong performances.

The senior team coming off the weeks rest regained second spot on the ladder with a 136 point win. Despite missing 6 senior players due to Mariners and injury they were able to cover their loses well. Veteran Brent Archer booted 5 goals in the first quarter setting the scene for the match kicking a career high 12 goals in a dominate performance up forward. Brad Davis also kicked 6 goals in what you could call a very erratic display at times. Having a set shot in the 2 nd Quarter he was 5 meters out on a tight angle and somehow managed to miss everything by  40 meters. Coach Justin Plapp praised the efforts of 2 nd gamer Luke Russell and Ruckman Brendan Blizzard and is please the way the group is developing with the amount of changes they have had in the previous weeks. On a real positive note the club had 5 kids playing senior football at the age of 16 years or younger last weekend, which is obviously very exciting for the future of the club.

Following Saturdays home game against South Launceston we have our first official club function with a trivia night starting at 7.30pm in Dockers Den. Anyone wishing to attend can turn up on and get involved for a cost of $10.

Dockers come so close to ending Launceston's Reign:

After having the weekend off with the bye we welcome Wynyard to West Park this Saturday. Following the clubs great performances in all grades against Launceston the previous week the boy's will be looking forward to getting back onto to the field to hopefully continue on with the good start to the season.

U/19 coach Andrew McLaren and reserves coach Brett Holohan would have been wrapped in the their teams performance against Launceston the week before. The progress shown particularly by the U/19's has been a real highlight over the 3 weeks and this is no surprise with the amount of time and detail that Andrew put's into training on a week to week basis. The seniors were close but not close enough, they would have been really kicking themselves after some costly turn over's though out the last quarter with the defecate being only 5 points. The real talking point for the day was the no goal that wasn't given after a set shot that coach Justin Plapp had early in the first quarter. The kick was clearly in by at least half a meter and was given "quiet confidently" a point by the goal umpire and to some very amused supporters and on lookers. Later on that evening, the local news showed quite clearly the error that had been made and left a lot of people wondering only if.

The club would like to congratulate and send our best wishes to Jacob Hislop, Zeke Gardam, Jacob Grubb, Kade Brakey and Tyson Mihocek who all made the state under 18 team. They will compete in the championships in Melbourne for the next week.

Following Saturdays game there will be counter meals available in the Dockers Den, all supporters and members are invited along to enjoy a great feed. Also there will be live DJ music in the clubrooms from 7.00pm onwards so we welcome everyone to stay around and enjoy the night.

Also on the 17th May the club will be holding a trivia night after the South Launceston home game. This will be held at the Dockers Den starting at 7.30pm and will cost $10.00 per person. For any other information or table bookings this can be made by telephoning the club on 64311819.

Dockers Bounce Back Against the Young 2 Blues:

Following our disappointing 2 point defeat against Devonport the week before, the Dockers bounced back into the winners circle by defeating the Penguin Blues by 150 points in front of a very encouraging crowd. The most pleasing result out the game was not just the winning margin but the efforts of our younger 1st and second year players. Tyson Mihocek, Zeke Gardam, Jacob Hislop and debutant Jacob Grubb were all outstanding on the night and all look set to having great seasons.. While on the subject of talent, all these boy's plus Kade Brakey have been selected to play in the Tassie Mariners first game of the season against the Bendigo Pioneers in Hobart on Saturday. This is a fantastic effort from the boy's, being that it is the highest number of players to represent the state from any club state wide. We wish the boy's well and look forward to having them all back against power house Launceston the following week at Aurora Stadium.

After last week's result the club is now sitting in second position on the ladder and looks forward to another home game against Smithton this Saturday. Remember following Saturday's game there will be counter meals available in the Dockers Den and all supporters and members are invited along to enjoy a great feed. Also there will be live music in the clubrooms from 7.30pm onwards so we welcome everyone to stay around and enjoy the night.

The club would like to announce that Lydia Webb will be the clubs ambassador for the 2008 season. We wish her all the best and we ask that you support her with this role being that it takes up a lot of  voluntary time throughout the year. Stay tuned for upcoming functions.

Dockers Beat East in Blustery Conditions at West Park :

The Dockers secured there second win for the season in as many rounds when it overpowered a young but enthusiastic East Devonport side (lead by former Docker Scott Matheson) in tough conditions at West Park on Saturday. There were 5 changes to the Dockers line up which defeated Ulverstone at Ulverstone a week earlier with 2 players making there debut in Alex Hartley and Jake Brakey.

The Dockers started well kicking 7 goals 8 points in the first quarter to East's 2 points after winning the toss and electing to kick with the howling westerly breeze. In the second quarter however the Swans lifted and managed to kick 3 goals with the breeze, the Dockers however also kicked 4 goals, going in at half time with a 53 point lead. The second half was frustrating for the Dockers kicking in inaccurate 5 goals 10 points and wasting many more opportunities with the still howling breeze. In the last quarter the Dockers seemed a little flat and really didn't run out the game as well as they would have liked, East outscored them 4 goals to 1.

Although a convincing win in trying conditions the Dockers will still be trying to improve in areas that let them down (shots at goal, etc) before the much anticipated clash with Devonport next week.

Best Docker:

A toss up between Kade Munday, Brad Davis and Matthew Smith, all had good games and were strong for 4 quarters, a perfect example for the younger Docker players.

Justin Plapp to lead Dockers in 2008!
Former Richmond, St Kilda and Tassie Devils player Justin Plapp has been appointed as the senior playing coach and will lead the Bayviews Burnie Dockers for the 2008 season. Justin played with the Dockers in the ‘96 season in the former state league and kicked 98 goals for the season before being drafted to AFL team Richmond. Justin's first year was exciting winning the Richmond's Reserves Best and Fairest award and becoming a favorite with the club's big supporter group. In the season of 1998 Justin made his Senior debut and went onto play 18 Senior games over a 2 year period. In pre season of 2000 he crossed over to the St. Kilda Football Club with Malcolm Blight at the helm and had two more seasons there. As playing coach of The Bayviews Burnie Dockers, Justin will be able to lead on the field as well as being coach. Justin will be a great asset to the club, and this is already evident with record player attendances at pre-season training.
